Originally a native of Cape Cod, Massachussetts, Mckinley Black has made Berlin her home for several years. Her melodic yet forceful voice has a wide dynamic range and her guitar playing is as powerful as her singing. After seeing McKinley perform it is easy to understand why she has earned a reputation as a uniquely gifted and charismatic songwriter and performer, without question one of the very best solo artists now appearing in Berlin’s acoustic music scene. Besides performing, since 2003, Mckinley works as a vocal coach for the Bertolt Brecht Dreigroschenoper at the Maxim Gorki Theatre. In an effort similar to the Sirens of Berlin project, she is currently organising a series of 2006 singer/songwriter contests to help revive and gain attention for Berlin’s acoustic music scene. The initial concerts will take place at two of the city’s most famous clubs, The Quasimodo and The Schlot. The final concert will be held in the Maxim Gorki Theatre. In all McKinley Black has released five CDs. Her song It´s Never Too Late, however, is a special production for the Sirens of Berlin CD. |
